I tried a home birth (with a midwife), was in labor for 16 hours, then ended up having my husband drive me to the hospital (about a 20 min drive). Turned out my son’s head was really big (98th percentile) and had gotten stuck at a weird angle (he was positioned correctly before labor began). Anyway, had a c-section at the hospital. The first 10-12 hours of labor were alright, didn’t hurt too badly, even though I was already 8cm dilated after 4 hours. The last few hours were pretty bad… exhaustion really does you in. By the time I got the epidural and the c-section I was happy to get things over with.
Point is, the odds of something going wrong are really low (my brother and I were born at home without any problems), and if you need to go to the hospital it’s likely no big deal either. C-sections suck for weeks after they’re done, and if you start out at the hospital the risk of getting a c-section is much much higher than if you try a home birth.

I researched and read about home births and I decided to have the births of my twins in the hospital whenever they decide to come but I can share what I know. Hopefully others post with actual real life experience. I watch baby shows on TLC and Discovery Health and I see that the women don’t have any pain medication. Labor seems to go alot quicker though. I decided to have my twins at the hospital because you never know what can go wrong at home and what happens if you are miles away from a hospital? Just the comfort in knowing that if anything happens out of my control, there will be doctors and nurses at their sides making everything ok. But it’s up to you. I know a girl who had a home birth and she made sure the baby was in the proper position (head down) and not transverse or breech before she had her son at home and everything went fine. Good luck!
