Are you hoping to experience a vaginal birth after having had a cesarean delivery? You may find your hopes are squelched by modern practitioners.

Hospitals around the country are now banning vaginal birth after cesarean delivery and insisting women undergo repeat cesarean delivery. Hospitals say they cannot comply with the guidelines issued in 1999 by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The guidelines call for a doctor to be available “immediately” throughout active labor when a woman is attempting a vaginal birth after cesarean delivery, in order to perform an emergency cesarean section if needed. Previous guidelines had called for a physician to be “readily” available. In order for a hospital to comply with the new recommended guidelines, a whole operating crew, an anesthesiologist and obstetrician would have to be in the hospital around the clock. Only major medical centers, with in house physicians, will be able to continue to offer vaginal birth after cesarean delivery. Smaller hospitals may now have to abandon the practice.

Why the controversy? Women attempting vaginal birth after cesarean delivery are at a greater risk for uterine rupture than what was once believed. Uterine rupture can be life threatening for both the mother and her baby. Some patients with uterine rupture may require a hysterectomy and some infants may die. The controversy that arises with the risks associated with vaginal birth after cesarean delivery is that many women are willing to take the risk, but their freedom of choice over who controls childbirth is being steamrolled by physicians and hospitals. Women are not being allowed to have a choice in their mode of delivery. Doctors say their position is based on concern for the patient’s safety.

Doctors now have a new worry that women trying to avoid repeat cesarean delivery may give birth at home or in birthing centers that are not equipped to perform emergency cesarean surgeries if necessary. Also of concern is the possibility that laboring patients may wait to the last moment to go to the hospital to avoid repeat cesarean section.

The controversy surrounding vaginal birth after cesarean delivery is not only a health care issue, it is becoming a women’s civil rights issue. A woman should have the right to choose her mode of delivery. Currently the right of a woman to be involved in her birth plan is being crushed under the weight of new laws and strict healthcare limitations that should be a cause for concern for all women across the nation.

If you are considering a vaginal birth after cesarean, be certain to discuss your options completely with your healthcare provider.

Having a baby is such a wonderful experience for a woman. After nine months of gaining extra weight, it is natural for woman of aiming to normalize its natural shape as soon as possible. But it takes six months before the body can recover after giving birth. Trying to lose weight too fast can harm your health.

Moderate exercise is essential to good health and this applies to mothers and mothers to be as well. Regular exercise helps to keep the body in good shape; it can also increase stamina, which help to cope with the rigors of labor. In addition, it makes easier to return to normal physical tone after the baby is born.

How soon you will start exercising?

Starting light exercise within a day or two of delivery depending, of course upon how easy and natural the delivery was. If childbirth is complicated or involved surgery, you may have to delay the resumption of your exercise routine. In this case, ask your obstetrician for specific recommendations. In most hospitals today, however, postoperative exercise is standard procedure.

Your obstetrician will probably suggest a number of exercises designed to strengthen your muscles back and to tighten the muscles in your pelvic region. You should also allow yourself time for nap everyday to help your body recover from the fatigue of childbirth. All in all, you should be able to return to your pregnancy weight and condition in about six weeks.

It is normally recommended that the form of exercise should be continued before and after pregnancy. You should not approach your exercises in a strenuous manner, but rather do them lightly and regularly. However, exercise and some sports that need a high degree of energy such as diving, skiing, skating and mountain climbing should be avoided.

There are Things to Consider before start Exercising

After giving birth, it is recommended that woman should do some exercises to help you regain figure just like before being pregnant.

Be patience for the main time. You gain weight for nine months thus losing it overnight is impossible. Have a healthy diet, increase calorie intake and have exercise it will help you to reduce weight.

Instead of walking you need a running exercise to reduce more weight. But take note exercising vigorously may harm your health especially if your body don’t recover yet. For proper diet you need an advise from a doctor, especially for breastfeed mothers.

The increase in calorie intake along with the exercise will raise your metabolism and therefore help you to lose weight. It is not safe or healthy to lose weight rapidly, especially while nursing. You do not want to risk a reduced milk production or a depletion of your bone and muscle tissue for the sake of getting back to your pregnancy weight. In the scheme of things nursing your baby, at a less-than-ideal weight, is really best for the health of your baby and for your long-term health.

Hi
In a previous pregannacy with a previous partner i had BStrep which my daughter caught during birth. She had an infection in her lungs but with some care in scbu and antibiotics she is now a thriving 6 yr old.
4 yrs ago i had another daughter with my now husband and had to be induced due to pre eclampsia after i went a week overdue and had anti biotics during labour to ensure baby did not contract BStrep due to my history which she did not.
We have now decided to have our last child but i would love a home birth but would i be allowed to with the BStrep history? I would never want to put my baby at risk but is there a possiblilty because 1 of my children contracted BStrep that any others will?
Thank you anyone for any help. I would just like to know if there is no chance as otherwise i would even discuss it with my midwife.

Just something I’ve always wondered!
As a child i had a condition called enuresis – i was still wetting the bed until i was 15. aside from wrecking my self-confidence (living in a body over which you have no control really isn’t fun) for all of my childhood, this is something i’ve begun to wonder. i’m now 25 and have grown out of it, but i’m aware that after childbirth, it’s quite common to lose some control over your bladder muscles and there’s excercises you can do to restrengthen them. but if you’ve had enuresis as a child, is this more difficult to regain, or are you stuck with a lifetime of incontinence? can this be avoided by caesarean?
i do not care how rewarding natural motherhood might be, if it means condemning myself to incontinence for the rest of my life, i will adopt.

I have read so many different books, magazines, etc. that I am just looking to hear actual women’s stories. I plan to have a natural birth but I’m open to whatever may happen on that day. I was wondering how long it actually took you ladies to recover after giving birth. And by recover I mean – you felt like yourself again (well as close as you could get).
1) How long before you could have sex comfortably again?
2) How long before you felt like your vagina was “back to normal.”
3) How long did it take for you to loose the baby weight?
4) Did you have a natural birth or did you use pain medication?
Thank you in advance for sharing your stories with me.
